Daily Prompt – Procrastination
To procrastinate – to carry out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time.
I do procrastinate, but it usually involves writing. You see I love to write, but not all subjects. So the result is that the non-fiction can pile up. Yesterday I wrote three articles that had waited for about a month. The problem is that I know they have to be done, I just conveniently forget about them for a while.
Then when I can no longer ignore them I’ll do a batch. I know it’s bad of me to leave them. But non-fiction is not my cup of tea, or rather articles aren’t.
Give me a story to do and I’ll happily tap away all day.
Take the dissertation. I am more than half way though it, but the critical essay is still just a number of brightly coloured bookmarks. I haven’t even finished the notes. I know that I will end up rushing it but I can’t seem to do it any different.
In fact I am now going to procrastinate a little more and work on the book and not the critical essay. I will get around to it – honest.
